Biography

Daniel Whitmer joined the Office of International Services team in 2011 and serves as Interim Director of International Programs and Sponsored Services. In this role, he leads strategic international programs, including student life initiatives, the Intercultural Competency Program, Displaced Student Services, and Sponsored Student Services. Having been an international student himself in two countries, he counts it a great privilege to be able to support talented students from around the world.

Prior to his time at IU, Daniel served as Director of International and Multicultural Student Affairs at Vincennes University. He also spent nearly a decade living and working in East Asia (China and South Korea) in education and development/poverty alleviation, and holds an M.A. in Intercultural Studies. His many years of active leadership in NAFSA—including receiving the 2022 NAFSA International Education Award for Distinguished Service—reflects his deep commitment to international education and collaborative programming.

Daniel’s free time is filled with family, friends, good food, home renovation projects, and traveling the world as much as possible.
